Integrative Immunology Laboratory

The Integrative Immunology Laboratory at University of Texas at Arlington is focused on how the immune system interacts with other tissues to regulate age-related cardiovascular and metabolic function. We are also interested in how lifestyle interventions prevent or reverse these age-related pathologies. We have recently shown that T cells play a major role in dysfunction of the arteries with age (Trott, et al. J Physiol, 2021). We have also found T cells contribute to impaired metabolic function with age (Trott and Islam et al. GeroScience, 2021). Our current projects are focused on determining the alterations that occur with age in T cells that mediate these negative effects, the mechanisms by which T cells traffic to the arteries and metabolic organs and, potential interventions to improve arterial and metabolic function with age. To approach these research questions, we employ a translational approach, utilizing cell culture and animal models, as well as human tissues.
